Judy’s Book: Word of Mouth Website You Need to Know About

If you have a business, you might want to keep your eye on Judy’s book

Judy’s Book is a site where people can post reviews and commentary about businesses, products, and services, all organized by geographical area.

You need to be aware of it because, even if you don’t blog or use the internet much, you can’t forget that there are plenty of people who do. And there are plenty more who will in the future.

Judy’s Book is organized by state and city, so you can quickly find towns. Right now, it looks like the only towns with reviews and posts in Connecticut are Danbury, New Haven, and West Hartford. But it’s all set up to allow people from other towns to post reviews — the Connecticut section has a listing of all the towns, with links to their own pages.

For example, here’s a review of a Stew Leonard’s Wine Shop, in Danbury.

Judy’s Book is very blog-like, with RSS feeds for each town, so that you can subscribe to posts. This is a big help to you if you want to keep track of what people are talking about in your area. You can subscribe to the RSS feeds and then monitor any posts that are made, all without having to remember to check the site.

For each town, there’s a Google Map, showing the locations of the businesses, restaurants, or services being reviewed. There’s also a great feature for voting on the review — if you’re signed in, you can agree, disagree, or add a comment. This is a very easily understandable way of presenting the comment feature to people new to being online. Smart thinking, Judy’s Book!

Judy’s Book also offers businesses a free business account. According to the site, you get “a comprehensive company profile, the ability to edit your profile at any time, [and] daily statistics on visits by prospective customers.”

If you haven’t started your own blog yet, this might be one way to get your feet wet.

But, whether you have a blog or not, you need to remember that what you say about your business is only part of the conversation that’s going on, right now.

It looks like you’ve got a nice community at JB — I liked the discussion about Mother’s day gifts.

[…] Close off comments for older posts. I finally realized that 90% of the attempted spam was targeting one post from April on Judy’s Book. I have no idea why that one. So I’ve finally closed it off. None of the comment spam for that post has ever made it past Spam Karma, because one factor SK considers in determining if a comment is spam is the age of the post.
