Ways to Have Fun on Your Blog

There are a few ways of adding fun and interest to your blog. I’m planning on trying out these two, and I’ll let you be the judge of how well they work.

  1. Cartoons. This is a tricky issue, because of copyright concerns. For example, I would never copy an online comic unless I had the author’s express permission, or it was a comic with a Creative Commons license which allowed the use. But you can certainly link to comics you think would amuse your readers, such as last Sunday’s Pearls Before Swine.

And there’s even a clever cartoonist, Mark Anderson, who is allowing bloggers to publish his cartoons, in return for a link to him. He’s got the details on his website. As you might have noticed on the left, I added the code to my sidebar, finally. Let me know what you think of this idea.

  2. Polls. May blogs run polls from time to time. They can be serious questions, but they don’t have to be. Here’s a page of polls on Jalenack — some mildly amusing, some serious. He created a polling WordPress plug-in. This allows anyone who hosts his own WordPress blogs (not those on WordPress.com) to add polls, by uploading the file on the site which hosts the blog. I’m going to try it out this weekend and see how that goes.

And for any blogs, not just WordPress, there’s also what looks to be a great polling service on BlogFlux.

    Here’s an example:

Tomorrow, I’ll show you how to do this in a post or on the sidebar. If you’re feeling brave, just go over to BlogFlux and give it a try.
Sorry! But I’ll get to this over the weekend.
